Since 2019, after many years of poor maintenance and neglect, we became committed to maintaining our Church's Outdoor Spaces to the highest possible standards, voluntarily paying out over £550 on maintenance each year. In 2020, we began to complete small Improvement Schemes around the Church Grounds to help improve the site for both visitors and the environment. Our first Scheme saw the complete renovation on the entrance area to the church, creating thriving garden spaces full of colour, installing new signage, a 5 metre flag pole and replacing the old gravel on the footway.
Here are some of the Projects and Schemes that we have planned for the future at the church, to help improve the site for visitors and the environment, you can find details of this work below,
Work will commence to replace and re-seal all of the guttering and pipes on the exterior of the church, along with new water butts, downpipes, soakaways and drains installed to maximise the church's water saving capabilities, which will eliminate the weekly journey of large machinery transporting large IBC tanks to the church for watering plants, which in turn will reduce our Carbon Emissions.
LED Lighting is helping people save electricity all over the world! That's why we've made the 'Church LED Lighting Scheme' available to Church Wardens to upgrade existing lighting in the church to LEDs by 2023. An LED bulb has the potential to last between 25 and 40 years and will use about 90% less energy compared to a similar incandescent bulbs, this will offer the church a reduction in electricity bills, allowing more money to be spent on repairs, supplies and other running costs. Upton Council has prepared grant application documents to help church wardens complete this project.
New Church Entrance Signs are already being discussed with Church Wardens and we'll be announcing when our new branded signage will be installed in December. The new signs which will be printed will include the church's name along the top and will offer visitors detailed information about the site, contact details and more. The new signs will be installed on to wooden posts in our new garden beds. This work forms part of our continuous efforts to maintain and improve our church.
As already agreed with Church Wardens, we'll be re-painting all 4 sets of metal gates within the church grounds, these include the front entrance gates, the side entrance gate, the churchyard gates and the rear vehicle gates. We'll be using a number of different coloured metal paints including black, green, white and gold to complete our work and we'll be enlisting the help of our volunteers to help us complete our work. To help make the churchyard more accessible to the public, we're planning to complete some major works to the footways within the Church Grounds. This will include removing old gravel, replacing gravel, installing new footway edging and weed suppression mats. New gravel at a reduced size of 10mm, will help make the site more accessible to visitors who use a wheelchair or have limited mobility, the new gravel will make the pathways easier on wheels
