We're carrying out a range of small and major improvement projects within the church grounds between 2020 and the end of 2024 to help improve and enhance the site. Our project will include enhancing the majority of the church grounds by creating new garden areas, improving footpaths and better connecting the site. Our project will also see the addition of new signage, litter bins, a new flag pole and more!
At the moment, the Churchyard Improvement Scheme is currently suspended as we look to engage with church officials on proposals to tidy up and further improve the site, as well as take time to secure further funding for the ongoing project. Our next batch of improvements will look to improve the footways in the cemetery as well as improving other areas, years of spraying and poor maintenance have left the footways filled with weeds and messy, muddy edges, our future works will help to enhance the site and make it low-maintenance, meaning we'll be saving money in the long run.
Our work at the churchyard has been made possible with the help of our Volunteers, who give up their time to help us keep our church looking its best, Glasdon UK Limited, who have donated two brand new litter bins for the churchyard, worth a combined total of £860! Tarmac in Maxey, who have donated 6 tonnes of new gravel worth around £350 to repair and create footways around the site. SKANSKA, who have provided signage, barriers and other safety equipment to ensure the project was completed safely, The SRB Group, who have provided materials and services free of charge and finally D.R.Burton & Sons Agricultural Contractors who have kindly helped clear the side of the church of brambles using their tractor and hedgecutter. We are very greatful to these businesses for their support to our project!
Our work to improve the entrance area was completed in lockdown, saw the full refurbishment of the entrance area to the church, the gravel footway was replaced and new garden areas created, a new litter bin and flag pole were also installed. You can see from the 'Before' photo on the left, the dramatic change that we have created. Since then, in October 2022, we started some remedial works to replant the garden beds and replace a plastic border with a new solid oak border, slightly increasing the depth and a new entrance sign is planned to be installed in November.
